Laser Vein Treatments
Laser Vein Therapy—
For women and men of all skin tones and types
Equipped with the most advanced vascular laser technology currently on the market, we can treat tiny superficial face veins, spider veins and deeper blue leg veins quickly, safely, and effectively. (See before and after pictures below.)
How does laser vein therapy work?
Our system delivers pulses of light energy that cause the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the blood vessel (which is later reabsorbed by your body). Blood flow is then redirected to where it should be – to veins deeper below your skin’s surface.
What types of veins can be treated?
Our specialists at Medical Esthetics of Napa Valley can remove unsightly veins from all parts of the body. Small, facial veins (or “telangiectasia”) can quickly be treated, typically without bruising or complication. Spider veins and large blue leg veins (reticular) can also be treated with excellent results. However, knotty varicose veins are not good candidates for laser vein therapy. A careful evaluation with your specialist can help you determine which vessels can be treated and the best course of treatment.
What about blood blisters and port wine stains?
Blood blisters (hemangiomas) respond very well to laser vein therapy, usually with just one treatment. Patients with port wine stains and other vascular lesions who had given up on finding a solution have been thrilled with the results of their vascular treatments.
How many treatments will I need?
Often, our patients find that one or two treatments are sufficient. However, the number of treatments necessary depends on the quantity, color, and size of the vessels being treated.
Do the treatments hurt?
Most of our patients experience a stinging sensation as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece. Although no local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required, we offer a topical anesthetic prior to treatment. Following the treatment, pain is minimal to nonexistent.
What happens after the treatment?
Following your treatment, some redness or bruising may occur. When larger veins are treated, a tan or brownish pigment may persist for a few weeks or months following treatment. We may advise you to wear support hose for a short period of time.
What are the possible side effects?
The most commonly noticed side effects are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin. These typically last for less than 24 hours but can last longer. Some patients may experience bruising and, in rare instances, blistering may occur. Our specialists can advise you on the benefits and risks of treatment.
Are there any restrictions on my activity after treatment?
You may resume most normal activities immediately. However, we recommend that you avoid vigorous activities such as strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours after treatment. Sunscreen should be used on any treated areas exposed to the sun. As always, it is a good idea to limit your sun exposure.
When will I see results?
Most of your treated veins will show significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment, although your final results may not be apparent for several months. Over time, it is possible new veins will appear, but these too can be removed.
What do treatments cost?
Individual treatments start at $150.
